It's extremely difficult to make it as a fine artist, even though a majority of the country is going for it anyway. Because of this there are less taxes that can take from these people, and also its not an age to be selling paintings all the time because not everyone wants an original work of art to display. But some people take the chance, and depending on their experience, can make a boat load of money with a profession that is very left to chance. Artists wanting a more stable career, they go into teaching art, which is more stable but has probability to make less money.
Area matters when it comes to getting into art, you can live in an area proven to be more likely to flourish the arts, but then you could also move somewhere without the  need for the arts. And with the increasing number of college graduates going into the arts has effected the amount of taxes taken from paychecks, resulting in a diminished social security. And it costs a lot to go to school for art. So what we've learned is it costs to go into art, and it is risky because you never know how much money you'll earn.

If being a Fine artist seems too risky for you, but you'd rather spend your time in a studio than an office, consider being an art professor. You still get to be in a studio; although you will be grading students; and the pay is a little more secure. And since its not based on experience, this job is based on what school you apply and get the job at. Statistics are that if you work at the Rhode Island School of Design, you could get an average of $82,000 a year. But if you work at a smaller school such as Full Sail you would only get $31,000 a year. So it may be more stable, but do consider it's about one thing: location, location, location.

So if you've set your sights on becoming a fine artist, the person that will sell paintings and sculptures to become famous through museums, you need to know the average salary of a SUCCESSFUL fine artist. In this day and age not too many people can just sell out the cash to buy an expensive painting, so the best option is to just see what people will pay, not set a price ahead of time. The average salary of a fine artist with less than a year experience is about $9,500 to $55,000. So starting out it will be hard to earn the cash without having some experience behind your work. For example, in comparison, an artist with two decades of experience could earn $11,000 to $104,000, simply because people prefer someone who knows their stuff.

If you go down the fine artist track, with no employer and no set salary, do realize that you are taking a big chance doing that instead of just getting employed doing art for a company. C omissions for that career are usually taken as a percentage, and the employer takes the commission fee. If you work as a professor you can earn somewhere up to $88,000 a year, and with a job doing craft art, things like large scrapbook conventions, you can earn up to $32,000. So be considerate of the average pay before you set your heart on a career.

Building a portfolio is a major step that many artists forget to do in the process of completing an art career. Your best option is to start in high school to show development because that will give your employers a look into how you can progress in their employment. The best way to start is pick a year, and keep all the artwork from that year. If it's past work, then gather your artwork into a folder and keep it. The way life is progressing now, its best to photograph and digitally keep your artwork. Many employers don't expect potential employees to walk in with a large folder full of artwork.

Art Careers are often thought of as the scholar who spends their time painting and sculpting in a studio. But contrary to that belief, many artists now work in studios on animations and architecture. The top careers for artists no longer include fine artists, but things such as video game designer and web designers. But many choose to still follow the track of original art and hope that it reaps the benefits that they put in. But digital media is taking over society and often web and digital jobs earn more than that of a traditional artist. But that's not always the case. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

To get a job that is strictly artistic and for the production of art then you need to get education pertaining to art. If you are going into lower level art teaching, then you need to get a degree for education. But if you want to combine these and become a high level art teacher you should invest in schooling to get you both BFA and a Masters in teaching. The BFA you can get from any regular college, as well as the masters, but to get a high quality education in either you should look for schools that specialize in these categories. These would of course get you into careers that have either art needs or specialize in education.
